So far, our babies have been winter babies and had knit hats that just wouldn't do for the summer. I decided that our baby girl would need a bonnet. Of course a sunhat is a little more practical and I do have a couple of handmedown sunhats that will probably be used more. However, I have always loved bonnets and this is my perfect excuse. I made this bonnet with white pucker fabric scattered with rosebuds, quintessential baby girl material. I used a scrap of lace and then two widths of white satin ribbon; one for the bow in the front and one for the bow in the back. Now I will just have to wait and see if it fits our baby! It should at some point in the summer at least.
Very sweet. I love baby things. And babies too :-)
ReplyDeleteWhere did you get the pattern for this bonnet? I would love to make one like it for a baby shower gift.

I didn't want to buy a pattern because it is such a simple item. Basically, the pattern is a rectangle! However, I wasn't sure of sizing so I found a cheap pattern at Walmart; New Look 6794 Size A NB-L. When I opened it up, I discovered that the bonnet was only size S-L, not NB though the rest of the pattern had newborn sizing. After consulting my baby book for my children's head dimensions at birth, I just made the pattern about an inch smaller length wise but left the width the same for more sun coverage. It is fairly adjustable with the ribbons so I am hoping that will work. If I make another one, I will probably use narrower ribbon than the pattern calls for under the neck.
