Robin's Pinwheel Sampler

Robin, a member of Potholder Pass 1 and 2 and fellow crafty blogger, was due to deliver her baby boy this June and lost him unexpectedly for unknown reasons at the beginning of April. My heart breaks at the thought of her devastating lost and the feeling of emptiness and pain that she and her husband and daughter must be feeling. From the time that I was a child to this day, I react to situations like this by making something. I know it doesn't ease the pain but I hope it shows that I care.
I asked the Potholder Pass Flickr group if they would help make 12" pinwheel blocks following the tutorial from the p.s. i quilt pinwheel quilt along. I must say that I was blown away but the outpouring of support by other women who, like myself, don't know Robin. 16 women volunteered to help, and I know that others would have as well if we weren't in a rush to finish the quilt and get it in the mail to Robin. I have posted pictures of the quilt on Flickr with comments giving each woman credit for the block(s) that they made.

Blocks were made and sent from the UK, Australia, Norway, Canada, and the US. I asked that the pinwheels be blue in honor of her son, and green because Robin describes herself as a farm girl. I asked that white be used in order to unify the blocks. Some women sent extra blocks and others sent money to help pay for supplies and shipping. This was a collaborative effort and I couldn't have done it without them. They are a special group of ladies and it is an honor to know them.

The quilt is on its way to Robin and I hope she feels the compassion and love that went into each stitch as she holds it. And I hope that in time, she heals. God bless Robin. We are thinking of you.

Edited to add: The quilt measures 58" square. Because of the many shades of color and styles of the blocks, I went with very simple quilting on the diagonal (1/4" on either side of the seams.) The backing material is Nicey Jane Lindy Leaf in blue and the binding is Nicey Jane Welcome Road in sky.
