I completed a sleeveless top for myself made of Anna Maria Horner's Coloring Garden Sea voile. I based it on Simplicity 2599. The pattern does not call for a lining so I had to adapt it a bit in order to add a lining of the solid voile in Water. I love ruffles but feel uncomfortable wearing them myself so I skipped all the ruffles that the pattern calls for. I wore it around this morning but felt like it gave a maternity look which makes me very self conscious having had a baby a year ago and not wanting to still look pregnant. So this afternoon, once nap began, I added an elastic right below the bust line to try to pull it in a bit. I think it looks better now. I asked my son (7 years old) and he said that "yes, it looks better now, it doesn't puff out in the middle like you are having a baby." If he stays this honest, he will make for a very helpful husband one day. I would show a picture of it on but his patience as a photographer leaves room for improvement.

Sorry, I feel like I'm leaving a series of random comments for you, as I discover a little more about your voile/lining thoughts as I've come from Flickr to here...but that's good to know that even the voile lining may cause a maternity look. I like the idea of putting a little bit of elastic in to pull it in though.
