I'm going to give you a glimpse into my wacky mind. As I work on this quilt, I can't get the Peter, Paul and Mary song that goes "inch by inch, row by row, I'm gonna make this garden grow" out of my mind. Just replace "garden" with "quilt" and it works though.
I now have 5 blocks by 5 blocks, a respectable lap size quilt but I am going for 6 blocks by 8 blocks so I have a ways to go.
I haven't decided yet if the Lady of the Lake blocks will be arranged so that they form diagonal lines of darker grey blocks and lighter grey blocks (like this layout in the picture) or if I will place them randomly. I am also thinking of taking out the solid yellow shot cotton large half square triangles. They are a brighter lemon yellow and I am not sure I like them. They have been bothering me from the start.
My fabric came in so the Happy Butterfly print and the grey elephants are in my new blocks. I decided against the yellow elephants when I saw them in person. They are less yellow and more apricot. They are cute but don't work well with these colors.
I haven't gotten much sewing done this past week due to all the snow and need to remove it. And there is more coming this week. Ugh.
I love this quilt so much. since I have your panel, I want to do a smaller version of this, in grey and orange, probably 3x3 layout. Do you mind telling me what size your HSTs are?
ReplyDeleteWow this is an amazing quilt.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your doing more blocks. I love this quilt and the more the better! It is really going to be beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThis is sooo beautiful!! It makes me want to make a yellow and grey something!
ReplyDeleteThe quilt will be so pretty Amy! When you’re ot happy with the yellow shot-cotton from the beginning I guess you better change it, but I can’t see it in the picture. It all looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteYou know what I do...I squinch up my eyes so I see my quilt blurry and if something stands out that I don't like...it goes!:)
ReplyDeleteI think your yellow shot looks fine in the photo but a little flat with the other yellows. But I also think that when you have ALL your squares done and laying on the floor you won't notice that at all and they will all totally work together!:)
Try the greys both in line and random... I think random might win!;)
Isn't it amazing how helpful it is also to take a photo and look at it on the computer before commiting to a layout?!:)
This is going to be a stunning quilt girlie!:)
I wish I could help you shovel!!! Love your quilt so far. I look forward to seeing the elephants in there.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful and cheery! I feel your pain with the snow. We've been buried a lot this year.
ReplyDeleteI take pictures of both layouts and then walk away for a couple hours. Usually when I come back to it I can tell right away what direction I want to go. Love your color combo, this is going to be a lovely quilt!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Nicolette. I think the bright yellow looks really great in the pic. Maybe it just doesn't translate. Sad to hear about the elephants... :(
ReplyDeletebut I'm sure you'll find a project for them later!
The bigger it gets, the more I love it! Great colors, and I'm hoping to see a shot of your blocks in the random layout.
ReplyDeleteLooking good! I never would have thought to pair the yellows and grays, but they make a very striking combination. Can't believe how many blocks you have done already!
