Beam N Read Giveaway
Recently, I was asked if I would like to review the Beam N Read Hands Free Light. Initially, I thought I would decline, thinking that I didn't really have a use for it. I don't have trouble seeing while doing handwork (yet!) so I didn't feel like I needed the light and optional magnifying glass. Sure, I might use it to read in bed but that had nothing to do with my sewing blog. But then I thought of the perfect use!
When I have a quilt done and need to hand sew the binding, I declare it a movie night. When we renovated our office about a year ago, my husband installed a movie screen. He likes to watch movies with all the lights off. I always want to turn on a light so that I can see. We compromise by turning on a light in the back half of the room so it's still dark for the movie but I can hardly see. While sewing the binding on the runner that I just showed you, I tried the Beam N Read. It was very lightweight and comfortable to wear around my neck. I used the 3 LED setting rather than the 6 and had plenty of light to see by and it didn't bother my husband in the least! As you can see, the light is very focused.
If you would like to try a Beam N Read, I have been given permission to give one away to a lucky winner. To enter, please just leave a comment here and let me know how you plan to use the light. I will draw a winner on Tuesday, June 12th in the evening.

Wow! That's awesome! I'd use it reading at night when I can't sleep! I'd probably use it some too while watching movies!
ReplyDeleteI would use it for reading and sewing. We use all these [stupid] energy saver [expensive] lightbulbs which aren't very bright and give a silly glow and hardly any light (go figure) so it would be nice to have proper light to work with! Fingers crossed - this is exactly what I need!! Number 2 commenter normally doesn't win though.... ;)
ReplyDeleteI would probably use it the same way!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a really useful light. I do have trouble seeing (my old eyes ain't what they used to be) and this would be great for handwork even in a lit room. For me.
ReplyDeleteTo read in bed after my hubby goes to sleep. I am a bit of an insomniac.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to use the way you do for handsewing the binding. I handsew in our lounge as its more comfy and warmer, but the light is terrible.
ReplyDeleteI would use it to sew and read. thanks
ReplyDeleteWell, I DO need it to see! I was just thinking I needed stronger reading glasses for any hand work. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWell, well, well, your husband and mine are the same... lights off for a movie, or late tv show and I like to "do something" as I watch a show, so this might be a great solution for both of us to be happy!! Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteI would love to try the beam and read to embroider in the evening while I am watching a tv show. I am having a harder time seeing in the evening and may even like the magnifying.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely use it for sewing. It would be great not to have a light blaring on the back of my neck...and I still can't see!:) Plus we could have the lights off in the summertime when the windows are open then the gnats won't come in!!
ReplyDeleteI would use it when sewing on binding. Thanks for the review and chance.
ReplyDeleteThis is something I could really use for a million things.....sewing, crafting, reading, etc.....also, I have a Kindle that is not back-lit so, there you go, another application!
ReplyDeleteI would definitely use the light for hand work. I'm always getting as close to the lamp as I can, and it never seems quite bright enough!
ReplyDeleteI would use it with my embroidery.
ReplyDeleteOh that would be great for embroidery, with our regular lamp on sometimes it's not really bright enough, but the overhead light is just TOO bright, I've been trying to figure out how to come to a happy medium!
ReplyDeleteUnlike you....I am needing the magnifying feature. (because I'm old)lol.I would use it for crafting and sewing.
ReplyDeleteI would love to use this inbed while reading.
ReplyDeleteYES. This would be perfect for me and my husband, the old stick-in-the-mud-going-to-bed-early-just-because-we-have-to-go-to-work-in-the-morning! ;-) (I just take longer to wind down!)
ReplyDeleteI would use the Beam n Read light for the EXACT same thing you described! Movie night, projector screen, lights out, want to hand stitch binding on a quilt! What an awesome product! No compromise req'rd!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win! Thank you for your blog, I get many inspirational ideas!

I could really use something like this for reading. I have terrible lighting and the strain it puts on my eyes gives me headaches! Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteMy bedroom has poor lighting, I could use the light for reading, sewing, and knitting.
ReplyDeleteMy bedroom has poor lighting, I could use the light for reading, sewing, and knitting.
ReplyDeleteI have reached the age of needing added light (UGH!!) for closework like sewing bindings....this light would be wonderful....thanks for offering it as a give-away!
ReplyDeleteThis would be a big asset for my sewing and knitting. My husband likes dark for movies as well.
ReplyDeleteIt's the perfect light to help these old eyes when I am hand stitching the binding on a quilt.
ReplyDeleteMy husband likes to watch TV in the dark also. This would be terrific. Thanks for having this giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI, unfortunately, have reached the age where light and magnification are vital to good needlework of any kind. This light would be wonderful!!!! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteThis would so help when I am trying to tat!! Thanks
ReplyDeleteWow so many useful ideas! I would use it for reading a book to the kids with the lights out so that they can go to sleep easier!
ReplyDeleteCompletely portable - that's awesome! I would definitely use that for handwork while kicking back with my feet up. Good idea, lots of uses.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh I would love this and need it. Actually I needed that last night when I had something in my finger (and the optional magnifying lens) I was sitting here with a flashlight in my mouth and attempting to hold a magnifying glass over the top of my middle finger of my right hand. It did not work because I had to choose between the magnifying glass and tweezers and I needed both as well as the flashlight. I could not make it all work so I just got really frustrated. That would have been SO handy last night. But for doing handstitching for those like myself with eyes that aren't as good as they used to be would be wonderful. As I get older I am finding I'm moving bright lights closer and closer to me to enable me to read better. LOL Man o man, getting old really is NO fun at all. The Beam N Read is a wonderful answer to those like me and anyone that needs more focused lighting.
ReplyDeleteI would use it to do hand quilting, which I still do occasionally. It looks like it would be great for any hand work project.
ReplyDeleteLove a chance at it. I live in a house with a man cave, every night not just movie night. I've been wearing a miners head light if I want to hand sew or knit with his company but when I look up there is light beaming everywhere. The man doesn't find that amusing at all.
ReplyDeleteMy eyes are there!!! that would be so cool. I use my Ott light a lot but this looks much easier to use.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely use this for embroidering and hand sewing at night. My eyes will thank you and Beam N Read forever!
ReplyDeletegreat idea, would be very handy for late night reading
ReplyDeleteThis light is awesome - I would use it for any needlework I do especially small which is so hard for me to see!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the chance to win!

Since i hit my 40's my eyesight is well....... I usually drag my sewing machine outside on sunny days for the natural lighting lol
ReplyDeletethis light would be great
I'd use it to help this very old eyes see hand stitching better. I'd probably then take it to bed with me and read by it. Thank you for offering this...how sweet of you!
ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty good light. It would be good for use in the car when you're wanting to stitch while someone else is driving at night, too. :-)
ReplyDeleteI'd use it for reading or embroidery. Thanks! liz.taylor24@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI am of the age when I need more light in order to accomplish those things that I could easily do even 5 years ago. I love small needlework projects that I work on while watching TV. This light would be perfect to assist with focussing light exactly where I need it. Thanks for the opportunity to win this lovely giveaway.

Looks like something I could use at a play when the lights are off, and I want to read my program notes
ReplyDeleteI would love to use the Beam and Read, I need all the help as the eyes are getting tired. My arms aren't long enough. Thanks cher
ReplyDeleteThis would be so useful for reading and sewing!
ReplyDeleteTired eyes.....would love to have this light for reading and sewing....thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteSusan
What a great product! I would use it at night when I'm reading in bed and my husband is trying to sleep. This would be much better than a booklight. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI hope this is a solution for me! I HAVE reached that stage, and I cannot see to sew at night even with the lamps on. I have a stand light that works, but I have to have it right over me which means it and I are at very awkward angles. I'd love to try this!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant use! I also have tv in the dark issues - great for the watchers, bad for the people who need handiwork to sit still.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance!
This would be great for when we go camping and the family goes to sleep before I do! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMy husby also likes to watch films in the dark and I usually end up twiddling my thumbs or eating chocolate (not good) so if I has one of these great gadgets I could sew while we watched. It looks fab.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely use this light for doing my hand applique.
ReplyDeleteFine work of any kind needs lots of light anymore! Would be very interested to try this product: Beam and Read. Thanks so much for alerting me to this possibility. Fingers crossed!
ReplyDeletei could read at night and not bother my husband thanks for the giveaway
ReplyDeleteThat is too funny- my husband and I have the same dilemma. Also travelling in the car might be a possibility... I am sure I could think of some other uses...breast feeding at night...
ReplyDeleteWould love to win this. Getting older means not seeing as well and I love to quilt and embroider. Thanks for the chance
ReplyDeleteLove a little extra light for reading and sewing at home and when traveling. Am I the only one that sews in the car??
ReplyDeleteAll my comfy spots in my house are dark! I need this so I can handstitch in comfort!
ReplyDeleteOh! I feel the same way as you at first but from what you've said it sounds like it would definitely come in handy for hand-binding or my tiny 3D sewing projects!
ReplyDeleteI have tried many different lights for my hand sewing, but can't seem to find the right one. This one might work great. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. I will use it during movie night and hand sewing.
ReplyDeleteI have been looking for one of these lights, and have not been able to find them locally. My eyes so need this. I would use it for lining up patches on the uniforms I have to sew at night. I would also use it for my handwork, and reading at night. Thank you for the wonderful giveaway.
ReplyDeleteThis light looks great, my bedroom and lounger are open at the top, I really need something like this so if I can't sleep I can come out and stitch. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteGreat review.....It is now winter in Australia and gets dark early this light would enable me to keep on stitching until later than 5.30pm and help finish some of my ufo's.
ReplyDeleteI could definitely use this for hand sewing and reading. My eyes aren't what they used to be. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI would love this for English paper piecing. I've been thinking about lighted reading glasses but I already wear bifocals so that might not do much more than making me look scary. This light would help lots! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI would absolutely LOVE this! Thank you for the chance!!
ReplyDeleteI would use it for handpiecing and embroidery work...my eyes are getting pretty bad and I think this would help a lot! Thanks for the chance to win one :)
ReplyDeleteI'd use it for sewing and stitching both at home and on travel! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI would use this while handquilting. Or other hand stitching. Thanks for the chance to win this light!
ReplyDeleteThat would be wonderful for my over 70 eyes. I could use it for even sewing at the machine. Thanks, Lyn
ReplyDeleteThe best way for me to use it is when I'm doing any handwork. My eyesight is beginning to get weaker and the additional light would help a lot.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity to win the light and congratulations to the winner, whoever it is!
