Beam N Read Giveaway

Recently, I was asked if I would like to review the Beam N Read Hands Free Light.  Initially, I thought I would decline, thinking that I didn't really have a use for it. I don't have trouble seeing while doing handwork (yet!) so I didn't feel like I needed the light and optional magnifying glass.  Sure, I might use it to read in bed but that had nothing to do with my sewing blog.  But then I thought of the perfect use!

When I have a quilt done and need to hand sew the binding, I declare it a movie night.  When we renovated our office about a year ago, my husband installed a movie screen.  He likes to watch movies with all the lights off. I always want to turn on a light so that I can see.  We compromise by turning on a light in the back half of the room so it's still dark for the movie but I can hardly see.  While sewing the binding on the runner that I just showed you, I tried the Beam N Read.  It was very lightweight and comfortable to wear around my neck.  I used the 3 LED setting rather than the 6 and had plenty of light to see by and it didn't bother my husband in the least!  As you can see, the light is very focused.

If you would like to try a Beam N Read, I have been given permission to give one away to a lucky winner.  To enter, please just leave a comment here and let me know how you plan to use the light. I will draw a winner on Tuesday, June 12th in the evening.

  1. Wow! That's awesome! I'd use it reading at night when I can't sleep! I'd probably use it some too while watching movies!

  2. I would use it for reading and sewing. We use all these [stupid] energy saver [expensive] lightbulbs which aren't very bright and give a silly glow and hardly any light (go figure) so it would be nice to have proper light to work with! Fingers crossed - this is exactly what I need!! Number 2 commenter normally doesn't win though.... ;)

  4. It sounds like a really useful light. I do have trouble seeing (my old eyes ain't what they used to be) and this would be great for handwork even in a lit room. For me.

  6. I'd like to use the way you do for handsewing the binding. I handsew in our lounge as its more comfy and warmer, but the light is terrible.

  9. Well, well, well, your husband and mine are the same... lights off for a movie, or late tv show and I like to "do something" as I watch a show, so this might be a great solution for both of us to be happy!! Thanks for the chance!

  10. I would love to try the beam and read to embroider in the evening while I am watching a tv show. I am having a harder time seeing in the evening and may even like the magnifying.

  11. I would definitely use it for sewing. It would be great not to have a light blaring on the back of my neck...and I still can't see!:) Plus we could have the lights off in the summertime when the windows are open then the gnats won't come in!!

  14. I would definitely use the light for hand work. I'm always getting as close to the lamp as I can, and it never seems quite bright enough!

  15. Oh that would be great for embroidery, with our regular lamp on sometimes it's not really bright enough, but the overhead light is just TOO bright, I've been trying to figure out how to come to a happy medium!

  31. Oh gosh I would love this and need it. Actually I needed that last night when I had something in my finger (and the optional magnifying lens) I was sitting here with a flashlight in my mouth and attempting to hold a magnifying glass over the top of my middle finger of my right hand. It did not work because I had to choose between the magnifying glass and tweezers and I needed both as well as the flashlight. I could not make it all work so I just got really frustrated. That would have been SO handy last night. But for doing handstitching for those like myself with eyes that aren't as good as they used to be would be wonderful. As I get older I am finding I'm moving bright lights closer and closer to me to enable me to read better. LOL Man o man, getting old really is NO fun at all. The Beam N Read is a wonderful answer to those like me and anyone that needs more focused lighting.

  32. I would use it to do hand quilting, which I still do occasionally. It looks like it would be great for any hand work project.

  33. Love a chance at it. I live in a house with a man cave, every night not just movie night. I've been wearing a miners head light if I want to hand sew or knit with his company but when I look up there is light beaming everywhere. The man doesn't find that amusing at all.

This light would be perfect to assist with focussing light exactly where I need it. Thanks for the opportunity to win this lovely giveaway.

  48. I hope this is a solution for me! I HAVE reached that stage, and I cannot see to sew at night even with the lamps on. I have a stand light that works, but I have to have it right over me which means it and I are at very awkward angles. I'd love to try this!
