New York Beauty Quilt Top

I finished the borders on my New York Beauty quilt top!  This quilt top has a lot of paper in it still which is why it isn't hanging nicely. I have a couple of hours of paper picking ahead of me before I can baste.

The first border is BasicGrey Grunge in Oynx with Lakehouse Seed Packet print in black for the cornerblocks. The outer border is paper pieced triangles/points of various heights (just like the arcs of the New York Beauty). Each border was pieced as one long section so that there are no breaks or seams.  I drew them by hand, using a straight edge, so border is different.  The cornerblocks are Drunkard's Path blocks. The binding will be black Heath.

I have no quilting ideas yet. Suggestions?

  2. I love how you pieced the border, it really draws the blocks out and fills the eye.
You might have to go look how others have quilted these to get an idea. This is the point mine would turn into a UFO!!

  8. This is just fantastic, and the paper pieced border is the perfect compliment to the NYB blocks.

  9. what about quilting it in circles? to emphasize the circular beauties? im currently in love with baptist fan, which might be nice too as an overall quilting design? good luck, quilting design is always a tough choice for me too! your quilt is gorgeous

  12. Oh goodness. Its simply gorgeous!!

I made a mini with a similar layout (using circle of geese instead of NYB) and quilted it in concentric circles. The centre one took precedent and had full circles, and the 4 corner kind of slotted in behind it. You can see it here, if you like. http://www.flickr.com/photos/needlespinsandbakingtins/5793383411/

  15. It is stunning. I, too, would quilt it in circles. But then again I love circles in quilting so I would say that, wouldn't I!

  16. It's lovely! For quilting, concentric circles and echoes around the triangles....?

  17. Wow, this was beautiful but the borders take it up a level. Fabulous!!! I do love baptist fans but maybe something dense in the background space would make the triangles pop.

  19. The borders are fabulous Amy! Being "quilting design challenged" myself I cannot unfortunately offer any suggestions as to how to quilt this beauty. Now I have that song in my head "start spreadin' the news I'm leavin' today....."
