I am happy to support Beam N Read's Holiday Giveaway because it is a little bit different and it will help us all get in the spirit of giving this holiday season. Do you remember when I posted about Beam N Read before? The Beam N Read is a hands free light that you wear around your neck. The neck strap is adjustable so you can position it just right for your needs.
I use mine while I work on hand sewing projects and watch movies with my husband.
Recently, the Beam N Read has been improved. The 6 LED light has a switch that provides a choice of using 6 LEDs for extra bright and wide light or 3 LED for longer battery life. They have changed the orange filter to shift the light from cool daylight-type light to warm incandescent-type light by reducing the amount of blue light. For those who find daylight-type light stressful on the eyes, this will help. The neck strap has also been upgraded to an elastic double-buckle strap for more comfort.
I have one Beam N Read to give away, courtesy of the folks at ASF Lightware Solutions.
Here's the catch. To win, you must tell me who you want to win the Beam 'N Read for--who you would give it to? There is no need to name names, just say "my aunt who..." Do you know someone in an area that frequently loses power? Do you know someone who is a caregiver and could use this light when they are up in the middle of the night? Do you know someone with failing eyesight who could craft or read more easily if she had better, well directed light?
I will pick the most touching entry to win. I will announce the winner on Monday 11/19. I'll go grab my box of tissues now and be prepared to be moved.
Here are the other scheduled giveaways for Beam N Read. As you can see, there are a few others still going on!

Ok....let's be honest here...."I" am the one that needs this light!! It kills me to admit but I think I'm going to have to start wearing glasses all the time soon.....but...I'll play along....I would give it to my mom...then she wouldn't have any excuses for not doing hand-work anymore!;)
ReplyDeleteThere...I saved you a few tissues!;) Ha!
I would give it to my mother, who could use it to help her read better.
ReplyDeleteA very nice lady in my sewing group that hosts our meetings. She sews a bunch and I think this would use it, a lot.
ReplyDeleteMy mom for sure. It wasn't long after my dad died when she had a retinal hemmorhage and lost the central vision in her right eye. Now she says she is blind in one eye and can't see out of the other. She is 87 years old and loves to crochet but poor lighting makes it difficult. Thanks for a chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI would give this to my sister, who seems to be having a lot more problems with headaches, and I believe it is due in part to the poor lighting that she has in her home. She told me that she can't watch TV anymore, so she goes upstairs to her bedroom to crochet when the family is in the living room. The lighting in her bedroom is horrible! I can't figure out how she sees her stitches . . .
ReplyDeleteI'd give it to my husband so he could tie flies again.
ReplyDeleteLike a lot of us his eyes aren't the same as they used to be.
Thank you for the chance
what a fantastic idea! I would love to gift one to my grandmother. just lost her sight completely and suddenly almost 3 years ago... and then miraculously regained a bit of sight in one of her eyes last year. the doctors are completely baffled, but my grandmother is thrilled to be gifted with some vision no matter how weak it is. the most challenging thing is the difficulty having enough light; everything always appears so dark to her. thanks for the opportunity to share this with her.
ReplyDeleteDon't think you will need any tissues here....but I'm sorry to say that I'm the one who needs more light to do the handwork that I enjoy. I'm getting cataracts but they are not ready to be removed yet so until then....I need good light...thanks
ReplyDeleteI think I'll keep it myself!!!! Since I live in France in an old farmer's house with small windows I have more and more difficulty to sew and knit.
ReplyDeleteI would give this to my darling Gran who recently moved into a nursing home. She is a lifelong crafter, always sewing, crocheting and knitting and also an avid reader. She had the most beautiful garden at her home that she misses desperately and I doubt I would be so in love with crafting, reading and gardening without her influence. She has a problem with her spine that affects her feet and legs putting her at high risk for falls. She needs to wait for someone to be with her before she can get out of bed or her chair so she spends a lot of time in them. For someone who has been so active and independant this is very heartbreaking and frustrating for her. And of course, at 95 the eyesight is failing. She lamented to me recently how hard she finds it to thread a needle these days. Anything to help her carry on creating and reading as long as possible would make her very happy :)
ReplyDeletei need this to read so i wont bother my husband
ReplyDeleteI immediatly thought of my nana who is almost 91. The family bought her a Kindle and loaded it with books and she LOVES it! She could work it within minutes and hasn't looked back since. She couldn't handle the larger heavier books on her lap or on the table anymore as they were too heavy or not easy to keep open - and not all books come in large print so the Kindle was perfect. But, as you may know, they are not 'lit' so this light would be perfect for her so she can read her Kindle anywhere!
ReplyDeleteI would give the Beam N’ Read to my sister who often knits long into the night. She has just spent the last 2.5 years being our mother’s voice and advocate as Mom went through first malignant melanoma and then colon cancer. While she took Mom to her appointments and stayed with Mom in the hospital, she dragged bags of yarn and needles with her, continued to fill orders and keep working to make a living. And then she often gave hats to the doctors or nurses or other patients! Mom unfortunately passed October 15th and while we are all painfully trying to figure out life without her, my sister is now trying to catch up on orders and pay her accumulated debts. I am sure this light would certainly help her do so. Thanks for the opportunity to enter!
ReplyDeleteLet me see. While I would LOVE to have it, I would give it to a Sandy victim. So many are still without heat and power. Maybe someone could really use it right now. And if that's the case, I'm sure they need it more than I at this point!
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to give this wonderful light to my mom. She still loves to read and do hand work, but at 75 it's getting harder. The lighting in her great room is not the best either and is very hard on her eyes. Thank you for the opportunity to enter and possibly win this for mom :)
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this giveaway. As I age I find I need more and more assistance with lighting in order to stitch at night. Thanks for the opportunity.
ReplyDeletesharon.bourque@sympatico.ca
I would give this to my daughter. She suffers from a great number of disabilities. She mentioned that she would like to bead more but a regular light is not good enough any more. This light would allow her to bed and do other crafts. Doing crafts allows her mind to not dwell on her chronic pain.
ReplyDeleteI bought one last year for my father. If I'm lucky enough to win, I'd keep this one for myself. My eyes need all the help they can get. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter does a lot of beading at night. I would give this to her for Christmas. Thanks for the great giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI would give it to my gram! We just celebrated her 84th birthday and she still does a lot of sewing. She makes turbans and blankets for cancer patients in hospitals, which she began to do after my mom was diagnosed 10 years ago (who totally recovered! yay!). Her eyesight isn't the best anymore.

No need to count me in your giveaway, just came by to say hey and enjoyed your post.
ReplyDeleteI would give this light to my sister who knits and reads a lot in an apartment that doesn't have very good lighting.
ReplyDeleteI'd give it to my mother. She lives in Alaska and it's getting pretty dark out, like usual. It'd really help to have the extra lighting!
ReplyDeleteI would give it to myself. BUT, with a very good reason. I would love to use the 'Beam and Read' to blessed others around me by using it myself to craft and make gifts for others. I recently moved to a new room which is very dim and would love to have this 'Beam and Read'.
ReplyDeleteSincerly, an 18yr old girl who LOVES kids and crafts.
I would keep it myself, but it would be a gift for my husband because I love to read in bed and this would allow him to get to sleep while I continue reading. Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this for my mom's wife. She is a great sewer who in retirement has started up a business of making aprons. This would be a great gift for her in her later years to keep continuing her dream of not only sewing for the public, but making great doll outfits for her grandchildren.
ReplyDeleteI'd love the chance to win the Beam and Read because I'm chronically ill and live in an area that loses power every time it storms. This would be very helpful in finding my meds as well as making sure I'm taking the right ones. It's not easy withdrawing meds into a syringe and injecting by candle light!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this opportunity.

Thank you the offer of this wonderful product as a giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI would give it to my parents (87 & 91). They sill .10 mile away from me and I am their primary caregiver. They are very independent. My Dad has had a detached retina and is recovering from the surgery and has trouble seeing at night. He is an avid reader and this would enable him to enjoy reading much more as well as help him get around the house at night (this one scares me). My Mother could use it reading and doing crossword puzzles.
I hit publish too soon!!! My anonymous comment starts with... I would give it to my parents (87 & 91) posted just before this comment. Guess I got too excited!

I wish to give this my 94 yr old MIL to read with at all times of the day or night.
ReplyDeleteI would give this to my grandmother. She is the light in my life, she taught me about quilting and sewing and faith. She still shines strongly despite some major setbacks in the past year. Grandpa had open heart surgery, and she fell down the stairs. Her leg was broken for 3 months before doctors discovered it. My Grandma is not supposed to put weight on her leg now for another 4 months and they cannot do surgery because it was too long. She still manages to sew and volunteer her time with the church and her quilt guild. She sews upstairs where the light is not great. I would love to give her the gift of light. Thank you for the chance and for letting me share my wonderful grandma with you.

Thank you! I would gift this to myself because with my aging eyes, it's becoming much harder for me to see my craft work. It would be such a help to me!
ReplyDeletewell, I don't know that I can do touching, and I'm not willing to fake sincere emotion as that would be unkind, but I would give it to my Mom who does need more light to read her books by as she gets older.
ReplyDeleteI would give this light to my father. He has Parkinson's and has eye problems including macular degeneration and glaucoma. He has a hard time walking at night up the pathway from the driveway to the front door. There are 5 steps he has to negotiate along the way and thought there are lights along the pathway it scares him to walk alone though I know he would not like me to say that aloud. I think he would also use the light to walk to the bathroom at night as there are three different rooms to walk through and the flooring in each room is different. Than you for offering this giveaway. Cathy at trahans dot net
ReplyDeleteEven before I read the giveaway requirements I thought that this would be perfect for my MIL. So I would give this to my MIL!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I need the light myself. I craft for all the holidays, make favors for the nursing home trays, cards for my adopted soldier and little tidbits for my sister's 4H group and for her school (she is an aide in a school for mentally challenged). My eyes have deteriorated to the point that even with the prescription close-up glasses I just got, I still need several bright lights to continue crafting. I could really use this light.
ReplyDeleteGot to be honest, the light would be given to me. I love to sit and hand embroider/ sew in the evenings, and need a light like this to help. My eyesight has indeed deteriorated over the past couple of years, and good lighting is a key to success
ReplyDeleteI have several folks in mind, actually! My son-in-law likes to read late into the night...he (and my daughter) would greatly benefit! My daughter-in-law just had a new baby and finds herself up at odd times--she'd love this! My husband is a fire fighter...sometimes he gets restless at night -- but with all the crew asleep, he can't just turn on a light. He'd really benefit! Thank for a shot at it!! :)
ReplyDeleteI'd love to give one to my Sister In Law. She has had to stop doing handwork unless she can do it in bright daylight since she can't see in dim light very well. And that is a sad thing, because she does really lovely work! Thanks for hosting the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI would give it to my Dad, who has macular degeneration. He loves to read and to do crossword puzzles and cannot do either unless he has very good light. He is 82 and has just finished radiation treatments and therefore is very tire all the time and can't do too many physical things right now, so there is a lot of time that he would love to fill.
ReplyDeleteI would give this yo my best friend who watches her sweet grand daughter ag night while her daughter works. She could still crochet and hand work while she sleeps.
ReplyDeleteI would give the beam n read light to my mom. She recently lost the sight in her right eye due to diabetes. Having this light would help her one good eye to read with less stress. I know she is very afraid to lose the sight in her left eye. Without her sight it would be very hard for her to continue her 30 year hobby of genealogy research. She loves genealogy like I love quilting! Thank you for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI would give the Beam n Read to my hubby. His eyes could use the help when he's reading. It's a great gift idea.
ReplyDeleteIf I could part with it???? I would give it to my daughter...she loves to read at night...and could just fall asleep wearin it! LOL LOL
ReplyDeleteThanks for chance to win! :)
I love this idea! I wish it had been around when my Granny needed one! I tried a clip on booklight but it was too heavy attached to her paperback. My granny loved, loved to read and I think it helped keep her mind sharp as a tack as she passed 10 years ago at the age of 100 in wonderful shape mentally but her little legs could no longer hold her up. I could see this coming in handy for me as I lay in bed after a long day but I still want to get some hand sewing done as I unwind watching a few minutes of a DVR'd show! Thanks!

My mom loves to do embroidery, quilting and reading. She always tells me she can't get enough light. She has so many lamps around her apartment I am sure it helps to heat her place. So the beam and read sounds like the light she needs. Thanks.
